PTA Break the Rules Day and Year 6 Disco

The last week of term was a busy week for the PTA, who organised and prepared the food for the Year 6 Maypole disco on Thursday and The PTA ‘Break The Rules Day’ on Friday. Both events were a success and the children seemed to really enjoy them. They raised an impressive £393 and were awarded a certificate by Miss Krasauskas on Friday, along with staff and pupils, for all their hard work.

Fairy Homes by Hedgehogs

Children in Hedgehogs have been busy making fairy houses to go with their fairy dolls. We have then used these to make our own fairy wonderland. The children have loved doing this.

Coronavirus Doncaster: Update by Dr Rupert Suckling, Director of Public Health – 4th June

This week has seen some significant milestones in our local Coronavirus response. Firstly, for the majority of the week our hospitals have reported 0 cases of COVID-19 being treated. We have also seen, for the first time this year, our case rates drop significantly below the national average, our current figures show our rates are 21.5 per 100,000 (from 23 to 29 May) compared to the England average of 32.5 per 100,000. Local COVID data

Our vaccination programme has also continued at a pace – with almost 75% of the eligible Doncaster population having received their 1st dose and just under 50% of Doncaster residents now being fully vaccinated.

This is all great news, and I want to thank all of you for continuing to make safe choices in how you enjoy the relaxations of restrictions. It has been great to see families enjoying half term activities across the borough (including at our newly opening Danum Gallery and Museum) while being sensible and thinking about hands, face, space and fresh air. I urge everyone to carry on, and let’s try and get our figures even lower ahead of the decisions due around 21st June and step 4 of the roadmap.

Please remember the best way to protect yourself and the rest of Doncaster, is to continue with your weekly testing regimes, isolating when you need and getting your vaccination as soon as you can. Visit the Doncaster Council Coronavirus Update website for more information on Drop In Vaccination Clinics,  more information on testing and Danum Library.

Squirrels Complete Biome in a Box Challenge

As part of their ‘What a Wonderful World’ topic, Squirrels class learned about rainforests and Mr Robson challenged the children to create the features of a rainforest by making a model jungle in a shoe box using different tools, media and techniques, combining natural and synthetic materials. Below are a few examples completed by the children.

Out of School Achievement

Sofia moved up a level in swimming and Ellis was man of the match after his football team won 10-3. Aria received a certificate for a 180o kick in taekwondo and Lilly won a puzzle competition on holiday.

Skipping and Circus Day Reminder for Owls, bees and Squirrels

We have invited Mr Dan to teach our KS2 children some exciting new skills. On Tuesday 8th June KS2 will have the opportunity to take part in a speed rope skipping workshop followed by a Circus day on Tuesday 22nd June. We would like to ask for a contribution of £6.00. This includes both workshops and food. Payment can be made via ParentPay. Consent for your child to take part in the activities will also be required when paying. Children will need to wear their P.E kits for these days.

Free course available for families

Doncaster Council has shared with us the following information regarding a course which parents/carers/ grandparents and extended family members may find useful.

We want to make sure you are aware of this fantastic, locally sponsored, offer: Maybe you have heard about the brilliant online courses for parents, FREE (with access code: STGEORGE at: www.inourplace.co.uk) for residents in our area? The Solihull Approach (NHS) have launched a NEW online course!

How do I access?

What’s the code?

Can I tell my family and friends?

Absolutely! Share the news with other families in the area so that they too can take advantage of this fantastic opportunity.

How long is it?

There are 7 modules which each take about 5 minutes to complete and will benefit from time to digest in between.

If you like this… …you might like the bigger ‘Understanding your child’ or ‘Understanding your child with additional needs’, or other courses in the series. www.inourplace.co.uk

Classes for next year

We have been looking at pupil numbers and classroom organisation for next year and as it stands at the moment we think next year we will have:

  • Reception class – 19 children
  • Year 1 class 23 children
  • Year 2 class 23 children
  • Year 3/4 class 31/32 children
  • Year 4/5 class- 31/32 children
  • Year 6 class 28 children

This might change if we continue to pick up children in year groups through school between now and September.

We will be organising meetings between teaching staff to pass over information about the children and organising transition between 5-7th July, where the children get to meet their new teachers before the end of term. If you are a parent of a child in currently in Year 3 and would like to share an opinion/preference on the split, please email me at peter.mclean@wadworth.doncaster.sch.uk
