Special educational needs and disabilities
At Wadworth Primary School, we believe it is essential to provide a well-balanced, challenging curriculum for all pupils. It is important that we help all children achieve their full potential, regardless of any barriers to learning. Our aim is to provide all children with the best possible outcome in preparation for lifelong learning. We believe it is imperative that children acquire skills, knowledge and confidence that can be applied to all future learning experiences, including social, physical and spiritual development.
In order to achieve this, children need to feel valued, listened to and respected. We ensure they have equal access to high-quality provisions and support their learning, whatever educational need they may have.
Developing confidence, self-belief and a growth mindset in all our children is something we are passionate about. The achievements, attitudes and wellbeing of all our children truly matter.
We are proud of our diversity and work hard to ensure that all of our children are happy, safe and well-supported in school. Building and sustaining great relationships with pupils and adults in school is at the heart of our work.

ELSA support at Wadworth Primary School
What is ELSA?
There will always be children and young people in schools facing life challenges that detract from their ability to engage with learning. Some will require greater support to increase their emotional literacy than others. ELSA is an initiative developed and supported by educational psychologists. It recognises that children learn better and are happier in school if their emotional needs are also addressed.
The majority of ELSA work is delivered on an individual basis, but sometimes small group work is more appropriate, especially in the areas of social and friendship skills. Sessions are fun, we use a range of activities such as: games, role-play with puppets or therapeutic activities such as mindfulness or arts and craft. ELSA sessions take place in our very own 'ELSA room' which provides a calm, safe space for the child to feel supported and nurtured.
In ELSA we aim to provide support for a wide range of emotional needs:
Recognising emotions
Anxiety
Self-esteem
Social skills
Friendship skills
Anger management
Loss and bereavement
Are you struggling to support your child's emotional well-being? Are they struggling to manage or express their emotions? Please come and discuss your concerns with school staff as we are there to help. Additionally, feel free to try following resources to try to support them.
